    Carly Fiorina biography

    Carly Fiorina (born Cara Carleton snowed September 6, 1954) is an American businessman and former Republican candidate for the Senate US Representative from California. Fiorina served as CEO of Hewlett-Packard from 1999 to 2005 and was previously an executive at AT & T and its equipment and technology spin-off from Lucent. She currently serves on the boards of several organizations.

    Fiorina was considered one of the most powerful women in business during his tenure at Lucent and Hewlett-Packard. The spin-off from HP, Agilent Technologies - which was initiated by his predecessor, Lew Platt - ended shortly after she joined the company in 1999. Under his leadership, in 2002, the Company completed a controversial merger with rival computer company Compaq. In 2005, Carly Fiorina was forced to resign as CEO and president of Hewlett-Packard after "differences [with the board] on how to execute HP's strategy."

    In 2008, Carly Fiorina served as an advisor to Republican presidential candidate John McCain. In November 2009, Carly Fiorina announced that he would challenge incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer for her seat in U.S. Senate representing California.  On June 8, 2010, Carly Fiorina won the GOP primary, but lost the general election on November 2, 2010, in Boxer .
