Johansson made her film debut in 1994 in North cinema and was later nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress for her performance in 1996 Manny & Lo. Johansson rose to fame with her roles in The Horse Whisperer in 1998 and 2001 Ghost World.
His transition to adult roles with his performances in Girl with a Pearl Earring and Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola, which won a BAFTA award, and the two films earned him nominations for Golden Globe Award in 2003. A role in a love song for Bobby Long earned him a Golden Globe nomination as best actress in a third.
